Dental veneers offer a fast and powerful way to improve your smile’s appearance. In a matter of weeks, you could discover new confidence in your teeth! Still, you might wonder what you will have to go through to achieve your final results. The treatment is fairly easy and straightforward! Here is a basic step-by-step breakdown of the veneers process.

Step One: Consultation

During your initial cosmetic consultation, your dentist will learn about your oral health and ask about your goals for treatment. If you want to accomplish something specific — for example, if you want your teeth to be a certain size, shape, or color — be sure to let your dentist know. Pictures always help! If you and your dentist agree that veneers are right for you, you can progress to the next step.

If you have any significant oral health problems, such as untreated cavities or gum disease, these should be properly addressed before you move ahead with veneers.

Step Two: Tooth Preparation

Very often, it is necessary to remove a bit of enamel from the teeth that receive veneers. This makes it easier for the veneers to adhere, and it prevents the final results from looking bulky or overdone. You will be numbed during this portion of your treatment.

Step Three: Designing and Creating Your Veneers

Once your teeth are ready, your dental team will take detailed impressions of your teeth, which will be used as the basis for designing your veneers. The impressions, along with detailed notes from your dentist, will get sent to a dental laboratory. The technicians there will then work on fabricating your veneers. While you are waiting for your permanent veneers, you may need to wear temporary veneers for a few weeks.

Step Four: Placing Your Veneers

After the dental lab sends your veneers to your dentist, your dentist will examine them to make sure that they live up to expectations. Then, your temporary veneers will be removed, and your permanent ones will be attached to your teeth via a special type of adhesive. You might experience a bit of pressure during this process, but it should be fairly comfortable overall. Once your veneers are in place, you can go off and start to enjoy your beautiful new smile!
